What are Lyft payment methods?

There is a specialized ride payment system built into the Lyft app that passengers use exclusively to pay for their trips. Individual tips can also be made via the app, but there are no restrictions in this matter (passengers can tip drivers personally at will).
The payment method can be selected right before every other ride and there are also default methods pre-selected for certain vehicles and trip offers (all of which is conveniently displayed in the app).
A user can attach a debit or credit card and various payment methods can be selected and updated. Lyft supports all commonly-used payment methods, including:

  • Lift Direct debit card
  • The widely-used cards:
    • American Express;
    • Visa;
    • MasterCard;
    • Discover;
  • Account-tied debit cards;
  • Prepaid cards;
  • Modern payment systems:
    • PayPal;
    • Stripe;
    • Apple Pay;
    • Google Pay.

Users are required to have a valid debit card or credit card specified in the profile in order to pay with PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All transactions in Lyft are processed via Stripe capabilities, granting a high level of security that the engine offers.
The “Payment” tab in the Lyft app can be accessed to view your “Payment history” where the info on all the rides, payments, tips, fees, subscriptions, etc. are recorded and stored.
